The majority of properties in Gledhow are semi-detached mid-20th century houses. However, there’s also an excellent range of apartments which are popular with professionals. It’s considered one of the safest areas in Leeds to live, and most properties benefit from both front and back gardens.
There are three parades in the area, offering a variety of shops and amenities. You’ll find both convenience stores and higher-end gourmet food stores, such as Lidgett Lane Larder. There’s a post office and a local medical centre. Whatever essentials you need, you’ll find them within easy reach.
Transportation and schools
Gledhow has great bus links, with the 13A and 3A buses taking you into Leeds city centre and surrounding areas. Leeds Train Station is just two miles from Gledhow. You’re also only a 20 minute drive away from Leeds Bradford International Airport.
The area is known for its excellent range of schools, including the Gledhow Primary School and nearby Allerton Grange High School.
Working in Gledhow
There’s a good range of job opportunities available in the area. It is especially good for those working within the private medical sector, with Spire Healthcare being the area’s largest employer.
However, there are plenty of other great opportunities including retail, hospitality and education. Leeds City Council are also a large employer within the area, with vacancies frequently opening up.
Things to do
When it comes to things to do, Gledhow has something for everyone. At the top of Gledhow Lane junction, you’ll find an area dubbed “Little Switzerland”. This is home to the magnificent Gledhow Hall Mansion. Although it’s largely been turned into private flats, the Hall is open to visitors once each year.
There are also plenty of green spaces, including grassland and beautiful woodland to be explored. If you’re looking to stay active, the Gledhow Sports and Social Club is highly recommended. It hosts numerous activities for the whole family to enjoy.
If you enjoy eating out, there are a few restaurants you won’t want to miss. Sami’s Moroccan and Rico’s Italian are just two exceptional eateries to check out. There’s something to suit all tastes and budgets, with local pubs also offering a great range of home-cooked food.
